  1. Presentations:

    1. 7:30
      • Proponent: Dottie O'Rourke
      • Action: quick update on the Sully Historic Site stop light issue
      • Location: Sully Historic Site

Dottie O'Rourke spoke with concern about the removal of the traffic light at the entrance of the Historic Sully Plantation. VDOT is scheduled to remove the light on Oct 31. That would necessitate all traffic to be right-in, right-out off of Rt 28. There is not even an accelleration lane if one is trying to enter Rt 28 from the site. Discussion was held as to why the volunteers were requesting help. It seems ther is a Sully Foundation Trust to manage the trust, the land is owned by the Met. Wash. Airport, and the buliding are owned by FCPA. There was some talk about a "back door" entrance to the site but that application hasn't gone forward (Peterson Co.). One suggestion is that someone go to court to enjoin VDOT to leave the light until alternate access was provided but that "someone" wasn't identified. There was also some concern that there was not enough signage for the entrance or exiting traffic.

The vote was mixed but carried asking Carol or Mark to send a letter to VDOT with copies to other government officials asking that the light remain until some better access is ready. Safety concerns were mentioned.

  2. Old business:
    • Regarding County Redevelopment and Housing Authority proposal requiring public notification when groups using public funding acquired property for use as low/moderate income housing. It was pointed out that the VA. Property Owners Act made that illegal and the R&HA would be sued if such a proposal passed.

What does a safe highway mean to you?
