- Fairfax Federation Citizen of the Year Nominations close 23 October
- Every year, people across Fairfax County give their time, talent and energy to make our communities stronger. They lead neighborhood organizations, volunteer with local nonprofits, support their neighbors and find ways, large and small, to improve the quality of life for those who call Fairfax County home.
- For more than 85 years, the Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations has had the privilege of recognizing these extraordinary community members through our annual Citizen of the Year Awards.
- Nominations are now open for the 2026 Fairfax County Citizen of the Year Awards, and we need your help identifying those deserving of recognition.
- Nominees will be considered for the Federation’s Citizen of the Year Award and Citations of Merit, recognizing Fairfax County residents whose volunteer service has made a significant contribution to the quality of life, safety or well-being of our community.
- This year, we are also proud to rename our Special Gratitude Award in honor of the late Congressman Gerry Connolly.
- Gerry’s commitment to Fairfax County spanned decades and began at the community level. Before serving as Providence District Supervisor, Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and Congressman for Virginia’s 11th District, Gerry served as a homeowners association president and as President of the Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations. His career was a remarkable example of how community involvement can grow into a lifetime of public service.
- The Gerry Connolly Special Gratitude Award will recognize elected officials, Commonwealth and Fairfax County employees, and individuals who live outside Fairfax County whose service and accomplishments have enhanced the quality of life of Fairfax County residents.
- We know there are countless people throughout Fairfax County whose contributions deserve to be recognized. We are asking you to help us tell their stories.
- When submitting a nomination, please provide as much detail as possible about the nominee and their contributions. Additional information and letters of endorsement may also be included. Nominations will be reviewed by the Citizen of the Year Selection Committee, composed of Federation members and community leaders.
